Nothing quite matches Manly, a place that just encourages one to slow things down. Perhaps it is the salty ocean air, or maybe it is the late afternoon sun with its fading yet lingering warmth. When the designers gave us the brief to present a new scheme for an aging bathroom designer in Manly, we understood that no other style than calm, natural, and quietly luxurious would even be considered.

Designing For Lifestyle, Not Just Aesthetics.

The challenge was straightforward however, still very interesting: to develop a new bathroom which is not only beautiful, functional, and contemporary but that also feels like a personal retreat and timeless. A unique room in which you would be glad to stay for a little extra time each morning or relax if you only had time in the evening. 

Material Matters: Texture, Tone & Timelessness.

In a project like this, the materials say it all. We selected some natural colors and materials that work well together, such as light limestone, warm wood and brushed brass. Many of our choices here weren't based on trends - they were about creating simplicity with finishes that would age gracefully and still look amazing in 10 years.

Where Is The Hero Piece? A Freestanding Bath That Has Room To Breathe.

In the bathroom, it is the free-standing tub that becomes a sculptural point of visual interest. Located directly beneath a large window that allows views of the sky above the tops of trees, the tub feels special casting you into nature. We did install a slim ledge behind the tub; just enough room for candles, a book, or even a glass of wine from time to time on those long evenings.

Light (and air) is everything

By adding natural light, the change was significant. We made the window just a little bit bigger, we opened up different layers of light with recessed led's under the cabinetry, wall sconces to warm the vibe of the room, and overhead lighting to amplify the brightness of the room. The resulting space is bright and comfortable in the daytime, and cozy and warm at night.

The end result? Quietly sophisticated

The favourite feature for us of this Manly bathroom makeover project was definitely not just the look but the feel of it. It is a room that beckons you to relax. Materials, shapes, and fixtures have all been very well thought out in relation to the feeling we wanted to create.

It certainly shows that luxury can be understated in many ways. Luxury is about designed purposefully, good materials, and creating an environment that allows you to do your thing in a space that looks good, works beautifully, and makes you happy everyday!
